We offer high-quality individual surf instruction for beginning and intermediate students. We give only private lessons to individuals or small groups, and schedule all lessons according to tides and ocean conditions. What this means is that you get the best lessons possible.

Making a Reservation

Your reservation for surf lessons in Tamarindo, Costa Rica is considered final when we receive a 50% non-refundable deposit. The balance may be paid here in Tamarindo or you may request to pay the entire reservation in advance.

First-Time/Beginner Surfers

Your instructor will meet you at the shop, pick out your boards and walk with you to the Tamarindo beach. He or she will brief you on important surfing safety information and explain the current water conditions. You’ll spend a little time learning the hows and the whys of getting into the right position on the board and paddling. It’s your lesson, so interrupt us any time with questions! Next comes the part everyone is the most excited/worried about: how to stand up. Your teacher will demonstrate the method that he or she feels will be the most effective way of getting you to your feet. You practice it under the watchful eye of your instructor who will correct your position until he or she is convinced you’ve got it.

Now you’re really hot, so into the water you go! We’ll walk out with you into chest-deep water, helping you get used to managing your board in the waves. On the first few waves you get a push but by the end of the lesson you’ll be doing the paddling yourself. When your instructor’s work is done, you’ll be able to practice on your own for a few hours if you’re not too tired!

Age is no obstacle

You are not too old, too young, too out-of-shape or too clueless to learn to surf! Your trained instructor has experience with students of all ages, from school children to grandparents, and will structure your lessons according to your needs. Plus, it will add to your vacation fun to take a surfing lesson in Tamarindo, Costa Rica.

Improve your skills

For surfers who already know the basics but want company or coaching, we’ll go out and surf with you, giving you tips and pointers that will help you get into waves and get on your feet faster than ever. you learn as much in one lesson than you would surfing by yourself for a month

Surf lessons in Tamarindo are scheduled according to tide height, which moves in a cyclical pattern. You let us know when you’ll be in town; we’ll consult our tide charts and plan your lessons.
